The Pure Majek Diary

A Diary of the build of this beautiful sailing catamaran from the EASY series of yachts, designed by Peter Snell of easycatamarans.com . While we chose this model sailboat, the Diary would appeal to all sailboat types for amateur builders looking for plain english, simple construction ideas.

We took over 2000 photos of the various stages. If you are considering a similar adventure, the 200 page volume with colour photographs and various major system drawings, should provide many more ideas. Sections include:
  > Why we chose the catamaran we did,
  > How we located somewhere cheap to build the project,
  > The electrical and steering,
  > The mast,
  > The various growing up stages of the yacht, and
  > Much more.

The steering and more importantly, the electrical information are in more detail. Using this data we are yet to connect mains, wind or generator power for battery charging, its all on solar.

Included small 'light-bulb' markers in sections that require some thought during your own build. When should one start to think about power generation and marine cabling? What size cable should one buy? Do we need a microwave?

 

Pure Majek Diary 'Printed Package'  contains 200 pages, A4, colour, soft cover and is spiral bound and comes with the Pure Majek DVD for FREE.

 

Pure Majek Diary 'CD Package' also contains 200 pages of A4 material, identical in content to the 'Printed Package', but on a CD. It also comes with the Pure Majek DVD for FREE, and:

2. Pure Majek Operating Manual (some interesting thoughts that may help during your own build),
3. Pure Majek Power requirement calculator (This is a spreadsheet where one can insert data such as solar panels, or batteries and it automatically produces some intesting figures and their associated drain in a worst case scenario. We used it to establish our battery numbers, solar panel numbers and sizes. It also established what appliances went into the yacht.

The Pure Majek DVD (only)

Select photographs and video footage have been put together together to compile 7 indexed short movies on DVD.

This would suit those who use a DVD and will definitely inspire the amateur boat builder within.

It follows on in more detail from the Pure Majek Website by providing additional data from a pictorial point-of-view.

WE have also filled the DVD with other Sailing movies and footage.

 

 

 

 

Desalination Majek

A theoretical approach to our Desalinator or watermaker. Ever wondered how fresh water is made? We have cataloged our journey in making our own desalinator or watermaker for the yacht Pure Majek. This booklet describes our design theory and what components we used in the process.

The booklet contains 16 x A4 pages of theory detail including:
  > What is desalination,
  > Desalination Components,
  > Desalination automation,
  > Desalination electrical, and
  > Pickling.

The components are readily available and we document their detail here. If you have time on your side and like a challenge, this will definitely provide a starting point. Power Requirement Generator

This is an Excel Spreadsheet Calculator where you can play with the various electrical items (such as autopilot power, breadmakers, lights and all the others) and their power sources (such as batteries, generators or solar panels). By inserting your electrical components you 'wish for' and the battrey plan that you made, you can see whether enough power has been planned. Or generator requirements to top up the power needs if you fall short.

The Calculator also provides a colour graph of the daily planned power consumption. This allows for planning of high power items so that the power draw doesn't all occur at one time - collapsing your planned electrical system.

Pure Majek Operating Manual

This is a 48 page A4 document and a continual 'work-in-progress'. It contains all our yacht Operating Instructions. Given the position of many circuit breakers and the complexity of various components, we have united all our drawings and instruction maunuals into one unit.

We keep copies of all the essential documents here too in the event the Authorities come knocking, its all at hand with expiry dates and even Maintenance Data Logs. We have also inserted the quickest way to repair or replace items in the event they fail, such as replacing the holding tank or changing the fresh water filters. With the filters we have logged to components we have used for easy and quick replacement down the line.

We have decided to make this available to purchasers of the 'CD Package'.
